Corpus Christi man dies in crash near Taft

A 58-year-old Corpus Christi man died after the vehicle he was in struck a cement culvert near Taft.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said the crash occurred about 3:30 p.m. Sunday about 3 miles east of Taft on County Road 1612, according to a news release.

A preliminary investigation showed the driver of a Ford Mustang veered off the roadway before striking a cement culvert. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn and strike a utility pole on the driver’s side, the release states.

Authorities identified the man as David Hinojosa Jr. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

San Patricio County Sheriff Oscar Rivera shared a photo from the scene and said deputies and personnel from Taft’s fire department and EMS responded.

DPS continues to investigate the crash.
